Henry Mayer

The author of Son of Thunder, Henry Mayer was a historian and book critic. He was born in New York City and grew up in eastern North Carolina. He taught U.S. history and literature at various schools. He is the author of the National Book Award finalist All on Fire: William Lloyd Garrison and the Abolition of Slavery. He died in 2000 at the age of fifty-nine.
