Mary Jo Bang is the author of Louise in Love, The Downstream Extremity of the Isle of Swans, and Apology for Want. Her first book, Apology for Want, won the Bread Loaf Bakeless Prize. Louise in Love was a winner of the Poetry Society of America’s Alice Fay di Castagnola Award for a manuscript-in-progress.
She has received a Discovery/The Nation Award and a Hodder Fellowship from Princeton University, a fellowship from the Guggenheim Foundation, she’s both a poetry editor at Boston Review and a member of the permanent faculty of Washington University in St. Louis. Individual poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The New Republic, Denver Quarterly, New American Writing, The Paris Review, Fence, Best American Poetry (2001, 2004), and elsewhere. She currently lives in Saint Louis and teaches at Washington University.
