John Bailey is a lawyer who lives in Australia. His previous book, The White Divers of Broome, won the NSW Premier’s Award for History and the WA Premier’s Literary Award for Nonfiction. It was also shortlisted for The Age Nonfiction Book of the Year, The Courier Mail Book of the Year, and the Victorian Premier’s Literary Award for Nonfiction. Bailey spent two years researching The Lost German Slave Girl, making several journeys to Louisiana and one to Germany, retracing the steps Sally Miller claimed to have made on her journey to America.
